| As we use the term, Personal Publishing is defined as a service to
individual authors or groups to publish their work, usually in book form,
as an independent enterprise, the equivalent of assisted self-publishing.
It is recognized that there are many occasions when a publication is needed
for specific purposes, but commercial publishers may not be able to justify
publishing the work as a commercial venture for their company. This is especially
true, perhaps, for e-Books (also known as ebooks, E-Books, etc.). We have
adopted the term "personal publishing" to cover those situations.
-
The outline of our approach is simple: We require a contract spelling
out the rights and duties of both parties, of course. All basic functions
are performed by Personal Publishing division; for special formatting, we
refer to outside vendors to perform their special services.
-
We charge an initial fee of $100 to begin the process from a
Windows-compatible computer disk in one of the standard word processing programs.
This covers initial design of the work. The service charge for processing
is $0.50 per page. If new elements are needed or modifications in the work
are required, the author is notified and, if authorized, the publisher will
arrange for the required elements to be supplied to the work at the cost
of $50 per hour (plus costs of the additions if necessary). If the
print work must be scanned into the computer, there is a charge of $3 per
page. Additional charges must be applied to design graphic work, performed
in either Photoshop or Illustrator at $100 per hour. This work is performed
in close relationship with the author, with frequent contacts, to keep the
author informed at each step. Some work is better considered
on a project basis, which is sometimes cheaper.
-
Unless otherwise contracted, the work will be formatted in the following
choices for download/purchase: PDF, HTML, RTF, Text, Word, Word Perfect,
and LIT (MS Word e-book) at no additional cost.
-
The entire book as laid out according to the author's specifications is
submitted for editing and proofing by the author.
If originally-designed covers are desired suitable for download (usually
5" x 8" JPEG), there is an additional charge for design of the cover of $250,
half to be paid at the time of starting and the remainder when it is complete.
The author may have materials to be used in this project, and those wishes
will be followed as much as technically possible. The cover design is submitted
for approval of the author. All required changes are made before finishing.
If extra time is required for special attention, agreed ahead of time,
there may be an extra charge of $50 per hour.
-
Proofing and sign-off by the author is required before we assume completion
of the task. The files are then transferred to the site where
they are to be used. No copies are stored by Personal Publishing.
Some things we specifically do not do:
-
We do not take responsibility for fulfillment or storage of the e-books
or perform marketing or promotion of the work as a part of this operation.
-
We do not affix our imprint at any point on the book, but identify ourselves
indirectly by stating, on the copyright page:
"PP Published for ------------."
-
We do not file the copyright application, but will assist the author in
doing so if desired.
-
We do not set up selling mechanisms (credit card or other paying mechanisms)
but will refer to others for that work as necessary.
Only if desired, we can supply an ISBN for the work under our Personal
Publishing generic organization for a fee of $25 each.
In summary, we can do the job for as little as $100 plus $0.50 per page,
from manuscript-start to e-book-finish, if all publishing details have been
completed, but we are willing and capable of performing all other elements
needed in:
Publishing your e-book to your specifications for your
marketing.
